Week 15 NFL talk & a quick look at the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl
Today I will be talking about Akron verses Florida Atlantic in the super prestigious Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl. THAT'S A REAL BOWL GAME. Imagine you won and 40 years later your grand son says "grandpa tell me about your college football days." And you know have to go, "Well Johnny, we won the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl." And of course he is going to say something to the effect of "grandpa what the f*&^ is that?" (Because it's 2057 and kid's vocabulary is just going to be bananas unfiltered) And now you have to say "It was a bowl game in Florida that was shutdown in 2018 because Cheribundi ended up being some weird wellness pyramid scheme." Now you've opened THAT can of worms. Johnny asks "What's a pyramid scheme?" *takes deep breath/wipes sweat from forehead* "It's like that thing when... uh... have you ever heard of AdvoCare? It's like... you know how you have that one friend who never really had a job but one day they suddenly were really excited about a company and you're like 'Oh cool, Jeff finally got a job!' And then he keeps talking about it and in your mind you go 'Oh f*&^, yeah this company isn't real.' But, you don't say anything because Jeff hasn't had a job or been excited about anything since his wife left him in 2008 and he just really needs that win.... ya know Johnny something like that." So... I think Florida Atlantic will win 31-10.
Dolphins (6-7) at Bills [-3] (7-6) 1pm CBS- There won't be a repeat of last week's 'Snow Bowl' in Buffalo this weekend. There just will be a frigid 19 degrees and all the table breaking, parking lot puking, ketchup chugging action you would expect from a Bills game or an episode of Trailer Park Boys. Tyrod Taylor is back under center for the Bills today because poor Nathan Peterman is OUT after being KO'ed by the Colts last week. I think all the Bills fans that are screaming for Taylor's head should take note of Peterman. Because some teams (Jaguars, Texans, Dolphins, Browns, Cardinals etc.) would KILL to have a guy like that play for them. Franchise QBs can make or break a team. Period. Unless you have a complete Hall of Fame Defense (SEE: Brad Johnson & Trent Dilfer.) You know what's wild? The Fins and Bills haven't even played each other yet! They have to battle it out today and again on December 31st. Which means those two games could generate the last AFC Wild Card Spot! Holy f&^% right?! So, what is the key (well really not a key just more common sense) to the game for the Fins? Stop, I'll say it, the best running back in the league, LeSean McCoy. I truly believe this Bills team would be 4-9 or maybe even worse without him. On the defensive side of the ball the Bills have to stop Jay Cutlers short to medium passing attack. Now... that doesn't sound like home-run stuff but, the one Jay Cutler stat that stood out from their MNF win over the Patriots was his 6.92yds a completion. *Crickets* Why is that impressive? That means every second pass was for a first down. 10yds = 1st down... 6.92 + 6.92 = more than 10yds = 1st down. Neat right? I think it's going to be ugly, I don't think Tyrod Taylor is healthy and if he goes out old Joe Weeb is waiting in the wings...
Dolphins-23 Bills- 17
Packers (7-6) at Panthers [-3] (9-4) 1pm FOX- This is going to be short. I would love to write some amazing story abut Aaron Rogers making a comeback and how the Packers defense will rally around him. But, in short the Panthers defense is 5th overall, 4th in rushing and 7th in total sacks (37.) The Panthers have a great tag team backfield with Johnathon Stewart and Christian McCaffery, which is the 5th in the league... the Packers are 18th. The Panthers have a healthy Cam Newton while the Packers have a Aaron Rogers operating at about 60%. And the Panthers have a shot a taking the NFC South and the Packers are just clinging to life for the last wild card spot. Barring some sort of Hall of Fame mind blowing performance by Rogers it's going to be a rough day for the Cheese Heads. BUT, what is interesting is the Panthers are only a THREE point favorite at HOME with all those factors I mentioned above. What does Veags know that I don't? Well, had a few things not bounced in favor of Carolina in their Jets game that would have been a loss. Had the refs not blown that Adam Thielen touchdown call last week they would have lost. The Panthers LOST to the Bears and barely dodged a bullet with the Bills and the Lions. So... is this Carolina team all that it is cracked up to be? For today... yes. For the playoffs... eh...
Packers- 13 Panthers-27
*SEMI BREAKING NEWS* Marvin Lewis is toast with Cincy
Patriots [-3] (10-3) at Steelers (11-2) 4:25pm CBS- This year was such a cluster f*&% with teams that were good and bad. BUT, through it all the Pats and Steelers still remain atop of their divisions like the true juggernauts they are. The biggest headline going into this is game is that this week the Pats signed WR Kenny Britt to a 2yr deal. Britt is a solid talent and the best 'total' receiver on that roster now. He has a 'troubled past' and as sort of bounced around the league because of this BUT, if there is one coach that knows how to iron out player issues it's Bill Belichick. Now let us take a gander (gander... who the f*&% says gander anymore?) at one glaring thing. Patriots have the #1 passing offense and the Steelers are #2, so that's fun. HOWEVER, the Patriots are 29th in stopping the pass and the Steelers are *drum-roll* 3rd. There are years where the Pats are unstoppable and you would be crazy to bet against them. This year that is not the case. Plus, today they are missing three keys players on an already porous defense. It's in Pittsburgh and running back Le'Veon Bell is above and beyond 1,000yds already. I want this to be a fun AFC grid iron battle and it will be but, I have a vague idea of the outcome.
Patriots- 20 Steelers- 27
