Godfather of Sports Mock Draft 3: The Draft Awakens

1. Tennessee Titans: Jalen Ramsey, safety, Florida St. University
WHAT? Yeah, why not? The hype that Ramsey's camp has been creating pre-draft has been unreal. Players from both Tampa and Dallas have verbally came out to ask their franchise to draft him. The Titans buy into the hype and go defense.

2. Cleveland Browns: Laremy Tunsil, tackle, Ole Miss
With Josh McCown and newly acquired Robert Griffin III at the quarterback spot they make the right move (for a change) and get Tunsil. The Browns will start rebuilding an offense line that was ravaged by free agency departures.

3. San Diego Chargers: Joey Bosa, linebacker, Ohio St. University
Yeah! I am just going crazy here! YEEHAWW. Why not? Bosa gives them the edge rush they need and is athletic enough to stand up and cover the flats. He (and I hate drawing player comparisons) is Jared Allen esque.

4. Dallas Cowboys: Vernon Hargreaves III, corner, Florida
By now you have stopped reading... I can probably say anything now... PEN-15 CLUB! There is a 33rd franchise on the moon! I just ate a whole bag of Cheetos Mix Ups... *cough* If are still reading then I think Hargreaves makes since in Dallas. They need help in the woeful secondary and Hargreaves could be a solid number two guy right off the bat.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: DeForest Buckner, defensive end, Oregon
Myles Jack is the popular pick here. But, he still has a lingering injury and Buckner is at 100%. He maybe able to play a stand up end or outside backer in the Jags 3-4 scheme.

6. Baltimore Ravens: Ronnie Stanley, tackle, Notre Dame
Yup. Still Stanley. Still the safest pick for them. In fact, I could see the Ravens maybe making a move to drop a few picks back?

7. San Francisco 49ers: Carson Wentz, quarterback, N. Dakota St.
CLEARLY Colin Kaepernick's days in San Fran are drawing to a close. Even if the Broncos don't make the trade (that I think is a waste) to get the QB, Chip Kelly gets 'his man.'

8. Philadelphia Eagles: Ezekiel Elliot, running back, Ohio St. U
Maybe the steal of the draft if he falls this far. Chip Kelly gutted and left the Eagles organization for dead. Elliot could be the rookie of the year. Rare talent.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Shaq Lawson, defensive end, Clemson
Same old pick. The Bucs go defense here for sure. They do need a slot receiver but no one in this draft is worth a top ten pick. Lawson would be a great fit on Tampa's revamped defensive line.

10. New York Giants, Myles Jack, linebacker, UCLA
His injury recovery and other team's needs is why he COULD fall this far. Who knows? What I do know is that the G-Men would welcome Jack with open arms. That defense was like an episode of NCIS. *Insert joke about how awful the defense was and that NCIS is unwatchable* Seriosuly! Who watches that show?!

*TRADE ALERT: Los Angeles Rams trade places with the Chicago Bears. Bears get the Rams' 15th overall pick and 45th pick. Rams get the Bears' 11th overall pick and a 5th rounder.

11. Los Angeles Rams: Jared Goff, quarterback, California
No better city for his young guy to play in. It is a sound football move and a solid business move (rarely do those go hand in hand.) Nick Foles may start week one... Case Keenum maybe starting week six but week ten and up... we may see Goff under center.

12. New Orleans Saints: Laquan Treadwell, receiver, Ole Miss
With Marques Colston a free agent and no real option at running back here the Saints get Drew Brees a weapon for his last few years in black and gold. IF, and only if, Treadwell puts his off field issues to rest he could be a solid pass catcher in the Saints offense.

13. Miami Dolphins: Jack Conklin, tackle, Michigan St. University
Another safe pick. But, the Dolphins need to get better... fast. The AFC East could eat them alive this year. And to get a few division wins this year you need to get some blockers for Ryan Tannehill and newly acquired running back Isiah Pead from the Rams.

14. Oakland Raiders: A'Shawn Robinson, defensive tackle, Alabama
He can play end on regular downs and move in and play tackle on passing downs. Big guy, quick feet, and knows how to leverage a blocker. And he is smart enough to open gaps for his linebackers. And oh boy! Does Oakland have a linebacker core!

15. Chicago Bears: Sheldon Rankins, defensive tackle, Louisville
These two picks are kind of interchangeable. However, Rankins is a bigger threat off the edge. The Bears still may go QB... but not in this round.

16. Detroit Lions: Corey Coleman, receiver, Baylor
The Lions go back to what they do best... draft receivers in the first round. Is he the next Charles Rogers? No. But, it is a reach pick for need instead of drafting for value and no organization does it better than Detroit! Enjoy picking in the top ten next season.

17. Atlanta Falcons: Leonard Floyd, linebacker, Georgia
Insta starter. He was a freak in the combine and will be able to get at least 70+ tackles in his first season. A real ball magnet. Though, his coverage skills are somewhat questionable.

18. Indianapolis Colts: Reggie Ragland, linebacker, Alabama
The Colts need a total defensive facelift... then again when don't they? Ragland is a true inside linebacker and loves contact. Despite all the talk about how great the the defensive tackles in this draft are, the linebacker quality in the top 20ish picks is outstanding.

19. Buffalo Bills: Kevin Dodd, linebacker, Clemson
Another one of those hybrid kind of players. He would be best suited as a rush end and outside linebacker in Rob Ryan's defense. Though... I am sure the Bills Mafia has well above average expectations for the new defense. Worst case they can just let one of those 300lb fans on the field with an ill fitting Kelly jersey fueled by a case of Molson Canadian and lingering rage from Super Bowl 25... or 26... or 27... or 28.

20. New York Jets: Darron Lee, linebacker, Ohio State University
Hey, at least it's not a kicker! The Jets need many things, this could even be a quarterback if they don't get a deal done with Ryan Fitzpatrick. By the way, I am not sure if the Jets front office knows how old Matt Forte is. That was a short short SHORT sited move.

21. Washington Redskins: Ryan Kelly, center, Alabama
This is a prefect fit for the Skins. Kelly was a multi year starter that can also play at he guard spot. And, I believe that Washington will most likely win the NFC East again. Who is REALLY standing in their way? Really?

22. Houston Texans: Shilique Calhoun, linebacker, Michigan St. U.
A bit of a reach but he can help off the edge. And aid J.J. Watt get a few less double teams here and there. Oh, and it goes without saying. Pre season prediction, Texans take the AFC South again. Unless ALL those free agents in Jacksonville make an immediate impact.

23. Minnesota Vikings: McKensie Alexander, corner, Clemson
Alexander has been in the spotlight for the Packers, Jets and Vikings recently, and for good reasons. He isn't afraid of coming downhill to stop the run, started since he was a red shirt sophomore and has great ball skills.

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Vonn Bell, safety, Ohio State University
Yet another Buckeye off the board. Bell is a hard hitter and is a box type safety. Vonn would have been better suited for playing in the 80s-90s. But, he will have to make due in 2016, the start of the "Pillow Fight" era. *sigh* This sport is slowly imploding.

25. Pittsburgh Steelers: Eli Apple, corner, Ohio State University
Okay, now this is just getting crazy. Fourth OSU guy to come off the board in the first round. Steelers need help in that secondary and Apple can step right in as a slot corner and maybe work his way to the number two spot by years end.

26. Seattle Seahawks: Taylor Decker, tackle, Ohio St. University
Are you f*cking kidding?! OSU may tie the University of Miami for the most players taken in the first round (5) if this holds up, and it may. Decker is a solid blocker that is used to a QB that scrambles.

27. Green Bay Packers: Kentrell Brothers, linebacker, Missouri
Green Bay was looking for more of an edge guy but Brothers would make a solid inside backer in the Packers 3-4 scheme. Oh, and he also lead the nation in tackles last year with 122.  So, there is that... (can you tell the players and teams I know the least about...?)

28. Kansas City Chiefs: Andrew Billings, defensive tackle, Baylor
He played at the strong tackle spot while at Baylor and would be a great nose for KC. He is big and STRONG. Scouts and bloggers can't talk enough about his power and strength but that is because this guy is a beast.

29. Arizona Cardinals: Connor Cook, quarterback, Michigan St. U.
First off, Carson Palmer is most likely entering his last year in the league. Second, Drew Stanton (also an MSU guy) hasn't shown much since being drafted by the Lions in 07' and then there is Matt Barkley... well hope he likes the practice squad! Cook is a great passer than could learn a lot behind Palmer.

30. Carolina Panthers: Germain Ifedi, tackle, Texas A&M
Perplexed? Panthers need a solid line to protect the face of that franchise. (And the face of yogurt suddenly too) Also, he is a solid steal at the 30 spot. He is not a left tackle but could play and start at right. Derrick Henry is also an option here for the Super Bowl 50 runner ups.

31. Denver Broncos: Paxton Lynch, quarterback, Memphis
I have said it before and I will say it again. Denver will not pay Colin Kaepernick what he wants. If they signed Ryan Fitzpatrick he isn't a long term solution. Thus, they draft Lynch. And why wouldn't they? He is a real "Elway" guy with the ability to both run and pass well. Though, I think starting him right away would be a travesty.

Tomorrow: Godfather of Sports Mock Draft 3: The Draft Awakens (Round 2) will be out! I refuse to go beyond round two because at that point I might as well just be blindly throwing darts at a board.
