Coffee Fueled Picks Week 5

Hi there! It's like I didn't write on of these the last few weeks... whoops. Well, lets pick here at week 5. (I can't believe it's Week 5 already!) Thursday night football was truly a garbage bowl with San Fran losing to the spastic Cardinals. Now, what is entertaining this weekend? Tom Brady is Back. Rookie QB Paxton Lynch will be starting in Denver and the Vikings, Eagles and Broncos put their undefeated records on the line. 1:00pm Patriots (3-1) at Browns (0-4) Yikes... Brady is back at the helm and it's against a Browns team that would have a losing record if it was in ACC. Cleveland allows a woeful 28.8 per game... But, I want to talk about the one positive thing in that dumpster fire of a franchise, Terrelle Pryor. The dude proved he is an athlete and already has 290yds, 1 receiving and 1 rushing TD. Are these ground shattering? No. But, he is the only bright spot in a really dismal organization. NE-32 CLE...

Coffee Fueled Picks Week 2

If you're asking "Hey was there Coffee Fueled Picks Week 1?" Nope... because I didn't come up with the idea until right now! What are you going to get in this new feature blog? Quick blips on every NFL game on the docket for today and tomorrow. It's a great fast way to read up on all that is going around the NFL today and tomorrow. DO IT. 1:00pm Bengals (1-0) at Steelers (1-0)   Who doesn't love some AFC North action? Both teams look to take the division this year on the backs (arms) of their respective QBs (if I need to list who they are... you clearly don't watch football.) I like Cincy in this one. They have a better pass rush and receiver core. The only true X-Factor (I hate that cliche) is if DeAngelo Williams has another fantastic ground game which then opens up the play action pass which Big Ben does that better than most in the league. That being said.... CIN-27 PIT-23 1:00pm Titans (0-1) at Lions (1-0) So... the Titans lost to a SHAUN HILL...

9 New(ish) Rules for the 2016 NFL Season

People say that sometimes my blog is too negative or too condescending to the NFL. And you know what? It is! And it won't change, so, for you that hate my blog... thanks for reading and enjoy making out with that life size cardboard cutout of Roger Goodell you have hidden in your closet!  Now, on to the new rules for 2016. These came out during the owners meetings in March but the Average-Joe fan doesn't tend to read up on those. SO, I'll lay out the new rules and tell you, my adoring (and growing, believe it or not!) fan base how they will effect the game.  Two Unsportsmanlike Conduct Fouls = Ejection I am in favor of this one. This is on a one year trial bases but, odds are this will be law come the end of the season. It makes sense and keeps the handful of troublemakers off the field. It's as simple as this; you get flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct and you're out of there. The only issue is that it still is subjective to the officials calling the ga...

10 Things You Will See in the NFL Before Week 4

The Stanley Cup went to the Penguins. The NBA Title went to the Cavaliers and MLB is just getting into the meat of their season.... and now major sports fans like myself slip into a sports coma. Now, the best entertainment is re-watching the 1984 Cotton Bowl or a special on NFL Network about the career of Herm Edwards. But, I'm here to offer you some NFL writing based on nothing but my gut and having no social life! *single tear* Now, without further self pandering... 10 thing you will (most likely) see in the NFL before Week 4. 10. Sean Payton will be on the preverbal 'hot seat' He has been the Saints head coach since 2006. In that time he got them a Lombardi trophy, a bunch of playoff berths and most importantly helped lead the team during that hurricane Katerina mess. But, the Saints haven't been to the playoffs since 2013. In between there are a few mediocre 7-9 seasons (2012, 2014, 2015.) Does this warrant a firing? Well, lets put it this way... I've seen A ...

Post Draft Power Rankings! (Like it matters!

The draft is over. A lot of free agents are signed. And we may a have a team in Los Veges by 2018 (lets hope!) All that being said, lets put together a Power Ranking before pre-season! Why not?! I am going to count down from 32 to 1 because... well because.  32. Cleveland Browns : Did you expect them to be anywhere else? 31. San Francisco 49ers : Blane Gabbert? Colin Kaepernick? Jake Plummer? No idea who is starting for new HC Chip Kelly Week One. 30. Tennessee Titans : Year two of the Mariota project. Timeout! Remember when Jake Locker was supposed to save this franchise?  29. New Orleans Saints : No real direction here. They are ranked low for now until they show me an identity on O or D. 28. Chicago Bears : By Week 3 the Bears will be sending Matt Forte "u up?" at 3am as they drunkenly stare at their phone, missing what they had together.  27. San Diego Chargers : This franchise is a real mystery to me. All I can hope for this them to stay in San Diego as t...

Godfather of Sports Mock Draft IV: Round 2, Doooo It

Round two is where you can strike gold OR stock in Media Play. (Ugh I do miss that store) Let's see what the Godfather and Ben Atwood have in store for this round! 32. Cleveland Browns : Keanu Neal, SS, Florida   Very athletic but, more of an in the box safety. If he can play free safety at he NFL level is yet to be determined. One is for sure though... he will be livid to be a Brown. 33. Tennessee Titans : Kendall Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech This Hokie can cover and will fit well in this Titans defensive scheme. Maybe he can pick up where Cortland Finnegan left off... for the Titans sake lets hope not. Finnegan was an All-Decade A-hole.  34. Dallas Cowboys : Derrick Henry, RB, Alabama  If the Panthers don't take him in the first round AND the Cowboys don't take Elliot either than this will be a RB, most likely in Henry. Who, by the way, will most likely play with a chip on his shoulder after falling this far and potentially gain +/- 600 all purpose yards his ...

Godfather of Sports Mock Draft IV: Here we go again... again

With the draft finally upon us this week I decided to call in reinforcements from former Utica College teammate and 90's football guru Ben Atwood. We split this draft up 16 teams a piece to lend extra perspective , change things up and the results were... well here ya go. 1. Los Angeles Rams : Jarred Goff, QB, California   They traded up for a reason. And the reason is to rebuild this franchise ground up. Starting with the new face of the LA Rams, Jared Goff. Most likely Nick Foles and Case Keenum will get the start Week 1. But, come weeks 14 and up... we shall see. 2. Philadelphia Eagles : Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State Another team that is looking to start start fresh. Either Goff will go first or Wentz... who knows. T he fact is both will be gone by pick number three. Both are solid options that can step in hopefully a year down the road after sitting on the bench for one season, Ala Carson Palmer when Cincy first drafted him. (Also , these guys are jumpin g for ...
