Campus Heroes (Week 1)
There are A LOT of flashy stats after this week complements of teams like USC and Oregon facing the likes of Memphis Community College and Montana State Tech (not sure if either are actually real schools.) But, if you get past all those insane numbers there were some real studs that stuck our for me in week one:
5. Ryan Nassib- Syracuse QB, SR: 44/64, 470yds, 4TD, 1INT. This looks and sounds like a Syracuse native bias pick but he put the entire team on his back and threw like no Cuse QB has since, dare I say, the McNabb days? Despite his great performance Syracuse lost to North Western 42-41.
4. Connor Shaw- S. Carolina QB, JR: 7/16, 67yds, 1INT, 14car, 97yds, 6.6ypc. Now the numbers are not special and they guy did not even throw a TD but he gutted through an extremely painful shoulder injury and helped lead his team to a 17-13 win over Vandy.
3. Senorise Perry/Jeremy Wright- Louisville JR RBs. Combined 38car, 213yds, 4TD. I have never seen an offesnive line and backfield dominate like the Cards did in their 32-14 win over Kentucky. The props go to the OL that head great drive and got to the next level to open up holes for this L'Ville running game.
2. Marcus Curry- Texas State RB, SR: 14car, 131yds, 2TD. This FIRST YEAR D1 school owned a 'ok' Houston school 30-13. Yes, Case Keenum is gone but he didn't play defense! Great start to this school's season, perhaps a new South Florida like team on our hands?
1. Le'Veon Bell- Michigan State RB, JR: 44car, 210yds, 2TD. He owned the Boise State defense. I wish they kept track of broken tackles and yards after contact because this guy was a human pinball knocking over anything in his way in defeating BSU 17-13. Amazing fast and physical runner and my Heisman dark horse pick.
Honorable Mentions:
Auston Franklin- NM State WR, Soph: 8rec, 236yds, 2TD (49-14 W)
Andre Ellington- Clemson RB, SR: 26car, 237yds, 8.9ypc (26-19 W)
Bjoern Werner- FSU DE, JR: 4 sacks (69-3 W)
