2012 Week 1 NFL Power Rankings

Did you forget I used to write these? Yeah, it's okay, so did I. It is always hard to do any sort of rankings after only seeing a few weeks of sub-par pre-season 'games' but here we go. But, before I dive into my Top 10 and Bottom 5 I have to give my arbitrary the Super Bowl and MVP etc... picks. I like RGIII, Washington QB, for my Offensive Rookie Rookie of the Year, Luke Kuechly, Panthers LB, for Defensive Rookie of the Year, I am taking Tom Brady for my MVP, Darrelle Revis for my Defensive MVP and of course in the Super Bowl... from the NFC I have the Green Bay Packers and from the AFC the Baltimore Ravens, and I like (I can't believe I am saying this) the Ravens taking it this year... but for now, here is my Top 10 and the lowly bottom 5:

Top 10

1. Giants: Why? Because I find it hard to not rank a team that just won it all last season not at #1... for now.

2. Patriots: AFC champions and resigned both big TE targets. My only reservation is their veteran LT Matt Light retired.

3. Ravens: I think the aging defensive stars will feel a sense of urgency to get it done this season.

4. Packers: I know I picked them in the Super Bowl but I am slightly worried about their depth at RB.

5. Steelers: Another team with question marks in the backfield but always good for a top 5 ranked defense

6. 49ers: Finally found some rhythm last season and I think it will continue into this year, especially being in the NFC West.

7. Texans: They kept winning no matter who was under center towards the end of last year. If they stay healthy, watch out.

8. Falcons: They face a scrambled Saints, a new look Bucs squad and a one-man Panthers team, they should take the NFC South.

9. Lions: If they can keep their players out of prison they should be good to squeak in as a wild card.

10. Saints: Yes, they had a lot of off season issues but they still have an amazing air game that they can lean on.

Bottom 5

5. Raiders : I swear this team never has a set direction every year coming out of the pre-season. Kind of a CF...

4. Colts: Andrew Luck can only do so much for this team stripped of almost every veteran that made this franchise great.

3. Browns: This maybe THE WORST professional sports franchise as we know it. Period.

2. Jaguars: They got MJD back today (Sept 2) but he is their entire franchise. Try and name 5 more players... you can't.

1. Cardinals: While they are at it get Brain St. Pierre or Vinny Testaverde on the line to compete in this punch line QB battle.
