Bowl Blog Bash and Dash (Part 3)

At first glance these games look like they have taken a turn for the worse... again. But, one of these games look like it will be able to keep your attention through all four quarters! (unreal right?) And, most importantly it's on Christmas Eve, so good luck trying to sneak away from the party to check the score BUT don't blink because these two teams can score on a whim. Now lets kick it off, in this edition of Bowl Blog Bash and Dash (Part 3) I'll hit: Sheratan Hawaii Bowl, Little Caesars Bowl, and AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl.

Sheratan Hawaii Bowl (Dec 24, 8pm, ESPN)
So, we've gotten used to this game with the Warriors at home year in year out... and the last one that even had any 'sports history' impact to it was when Charlie Weis and ND won, Weis' crown jewel win (yeah). But, this year plans to be different. Hawaii has the 1st in passing offense, 8th in total yards, and 11th in points scored (39.9ppg). While, on the other side Tulsa's offense is 5th in total yards, 18th in passing, 15th in rushing and 10th in points scored (39.7ppg). Both teams are 3-2 all time in bowl games and have great QB's leading there high-flying air-attacks.

Who to watch for?
HAWAII QB JR Bryant Moniz- You can figure his stats will be crazy good... 4,629yds, 36TD (only 11int) and 4 rushing TD. But, Hawaii does not have even a glimmer of a rushing game so it's all up to Moniz's arm and his receivers.
TULSA QB JR G.J. Kinne- Same idea with the wild stats... 3,307yds, 28TD (only 10int), and 7 rushing TD! Now, Kinne has the 15th best rushing attack to help shoulder the load in this high scoring affair. So, he at leas has the option to rest his arm and hand the rock off.

Outcome?
Merry Christmas! Points, points, points and a high under/under at 73 which may not be high enough! Hawaii is a 12pt favorite because of their offense and oh yeah, they are HOME for a bowl game. But, I am going to take the dog in this one, I like their balanced attack, and their ability to run the ball, keeping Moniz on the side line: HAWAII- 37 TULSA- 45.

Little Caesars Bowl (Dec 26, 8:30pm, ESPN)
Congratulations to the Florida Int'l Panthers for winning the Sun Belt conference for the first time in school history. More importantly this bowl appearance is HUGE for them because in the past four seasons the Panthers were 9-39 overall... Meanwhile, the Toledo Rockets wish they still had Bruce Gradkowski under center as their starting QB Austin Dantin is out for the bowl game with a separated shoulder on his non-throwing arm. But, no matter how you slice it, unless you are an alum of either school your TV most likely will not have this game on...

Who to watch for?
FL INT'L RB JR Darriet Perry- An NCAA ranked 28th in total rushing yards complements of Perry. He is going to be this young team's best offensive threat. Perry has 707yds and 14TD this year and will most likely get 30+ carries in this game.
TOLEDO QB FR Terrence Owens- This freshman got the call last week when the starter went down... now it's up to Owens to lead the Rockets to a 'who really cares' bowl win! Owens has 1,112yds, 12TD and only 2int.

Outcome?
If you do happen to get bored of the James Bond marathon on SPIKE or just want to watch something I guess you can flip to this game... And important stat to look at is the fact that Toledo scores on average 27.6ppg BUT allows 28.1ppg, so lets see if this offense or defense can break that trend, that being said: FL INT'L- 31 TOLEDO- 23.

AvdoCare V100 Independence Bowl (Dec 27, 5pm, ESPN2/ESPN3)
Two old school option offenses should make this an interesting game between Air Force and Georgia Tech. The big story following this game is the injury of senior GT QB Joshua Nesbitt being hurt. Tech head coach Paul Johnson said at a press conference on December 8th that "I don't know if Joshua will be returning for the bowl...If they [doctors] say he has no issues and he is good to go." (complements of ramblinwreck.cstv.com) If they don't have Nesbitt Tech will start sophomore Tevin Washington.Meanwhile, Air Force is relatively healthy is looking to rebound off a poor second half of the season.

Who to watch for?
AF RB JR Asher Clark- Quarterback Tim Jefferson is leading the team in touchdowns with 10 passing and 14 rushing BUT the offense flows through Clark. He has 1,001yds, 5TD and averages 5.8ypc. He is the cornerstone of the nation's second leading rushing offense with 317.9 rushing yards per game.
GT RB Soph Anthony Allen- With 1,225yds and 6TD Allen will have to aid Washington in the nation's BEST rushing attack with 327 rushing yards per game (only 10.1 yards more than the Falcons.) Allen is a straight ahead runner and may take advantage of Air Force's small size and bowl some secondary skill players over.

Outcome?
When Paul Johnson was Navy's head coach he beat Air Force six times. But, he will most likely be without the Nesbitt who is a huge part of this Yellow Jack's option O. Tech is a 3 point dog and for the first time I think that spread is accurate, it's going to be a close one. I have been juggling this match up in my head and think that it's going to come down to defense (how cliche): AF- 27 GT- 30.
