Campus Zeros [Week 7]
Wooooo doggy! Upset central last weekend! Ohio State, South Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, Florida, Air Force, Oregon State! That means it was a pretty competitive week to get on the Campus Zeros list in Week 7. But, complements of the added 'Honorable' Mentions at the bottom of the list I make sure that everyone gets the credit that they deserve. I give you week 7's campus zeros...
Campus Zeros
5. South Carolina Gamecock's Secondary: Mike Hartline? Anyone? No, not Brandon Hartline... Mike. HE is Kentucky's quarterback and he had a borderline flawless day against the same secondary that KO'ed Alabama last week, oops. Hartline had his best game of his season with 349yds and 4TD NO PICKS! Well, the Old Ball Coach had his annual win of the year and loss of the year in back-to-back weeks. Sorry Cocky, you may win the Capital One Mascot Challenge but your Gamecocks will not win the National Championship.
4. The BYU Cougars Choice to opt out of a conference: Oh my BYU you are not the West Coast Notre Dame, by any means. For goodness sake the last thing we need is another team that gets prime time NBC games so they can showcase their epic losses week in and week out! But, BYU went 'rouge' and wanted to be conference free. No more Max Hall... and you are 2-5. Now, without a conference to lean on down the line what makes you think a bowl committee will want you to be a part of the "Holiday Inn Texas Road House Bing.com Bowl?" The Cougars really have to pray for another Max Hall-esk offense to make this move look like a good idea. (see what I did there, 'pray' and they are a religious school, get it?)
3. South Florida Bulls QB, B.J. Daniels: 18-19 is his career touchdown to interception ratio. Nice right? Just want to hang those stats on your mantle. And this week he tossed 3 picks in South Florida's eventual 20-3 loss to ranked WVU. This guy doesn't know when to take a sack, when to throw it away, when to slide, when not to wing it into triple coverage etc... you get the picture. Daniels has done everything to lose games for the Bulls this year as they sit at 3-3 in a weak Big East Conference. He is just flat out bad. Period. Lets move on.
2. Nebraska Cornhuskers QB combo Taylor/Lee: Totaled 77 passing yards the WHOLE GAME, no TD, no INT, no anything. They almost beat their combined passing total with 46 yards on the ground. Taylor was praised as being such a dynamic QB. The only thing that was dynamic about Taylor in their 20-13 loss to Texas was his running form on his way back to the bench after going 3-and-out. Now, with 7 undefeated teams above them in the BCS poll, oh, and 8 other teams as well it looks like Nebraska may have to wait next season to get into something more prestigious than the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl (Sadly that is a real bowl game.)
1. Ohio State Buckeyes QB, Terrelle Pryor: Where was this Ohio State savor in their huge loss? Where was the QB that is constantly plastered all over ESPN, FOX Sports and of course the Big Ten Network... I didn't see him. What I saw was a quarterback that gets uneasy under pressure, a player that wasn't able to put his team on his back. 156yds and 1 pick is on his resume for this loss, and a 'staggering' 56yds on the ground. Now lets see if this team can use their Ohio State mojo and sneak back into the top ten. My guess they will be back in no matter who they play in the following weeks...
"Honorable" Mentions
Florida Gators Offense: 7 points v. Miss. State (10-7 L)
Duke Blue Devils QB, Sean Renfree: 18/38, 157yds, 5INT (28-13 L)
FSU QB, Christian Ponder:19/31, 170yds, 2TD, 3INT, 2FBL (24-19 W)
Air Force Fighting Falcons Rush D: Allowed 205yds, 6.6ypc, 2TD
My (limited) Respect for the BCS Polls: Oklahoma #1?! Really?!
