Campus Heroes [Week 4]
Campus Heroes and Zeros was a segment I used to do on my Monday afternoon radio show. But, now I am going to convert it into a blog format... kind of lose the edge without hearing me drone and rant on about it live, but you get the picture. The way it works is I pick 5 of the best DIV I football performances of the previous week, these are the guys that got it done when they needed to, and got some heavy stats to boot. Here are your Heroes, the Zeroes will be along shortly...
CAMPUS HEROES
5. Syracuse Orange RB, Delone Carter: Hey Godfather! Your bias is showing! Well, pardon me for being excited that Syracuse football ISN'T 0-4, but 3-1 [mind you the wins are over Colgate, Maine and Akron]. But, no matter who you're playing Carter still had a great game against the Red Raiders racking up 172yds and 4TD on a meager 14 carries.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide RB, Mark Ingram: I am usually not a fan of hyping a guy that already gets talked about on a hourly basis on ESPN... but it is kind of hard not to when the guy performs great week in and week out. In a VERY close game with the ARK Razorbacks Ingram was able to keep the Tide's offense rolling [har har har] with 24 carries for 157yds and 2TD in an eventual win over the Razorbacks 24-20.
3. Boise State Broncos WR, Titus Young: This was another one of those ranked games that Boise had to win to stay in the Top 5. They were able to with a surprisingly stout defense and a 'Boise-esk' offensive performance. Young grabbed 5 balls for 136yds and 1TD. This is big-time when your team needs ever yard, every big play to stay in the hunt for the BCS National Title game.
2. UCLA Bruins Defense: If I told you on Friday that Texas was going to lose to UCLA you would have been laughing right up to the last snap in the 34-12 UCLA victory. Yes, they did let up over 340yds of offense BUT when Texas' driver chart in the first half looks like: Punt, Fumble, Punt, FG, turnover on downs, Fumble, Interception... you have something to be proud about. Great win for Rick Neuheisel and his Bruins.
