Top 5 Fantasy WR [Sleeper/Bust]
When drating a Fantasy Football team it's always important to know what players can get the the most points constantly. Of course every year there are the 'sexy' RB or WR picks that go early and are on the cover of all the FF magazines and ESPN; but, who really is your best bet? Lets talk about those loud and proud pass catchers...
The Godfather's Top 5 Fantasy WR
1. Andre Johnson, HOU- Is this even a question? This receiver constantly produces at the higest level year in and year out. He averaged an astounding 14.5ypc the last three seasons and always hits double digit fantasy pointsevery week! He is one of the few WR I would say take before you draft a second tier running back. And now that rookie RB Ben Tate is seriously hurt that means that once agian head coach Gary Kubiak will lean on Johnson and his sticky hands to lead the offense. ROUND: Early to mid 1st
2. Reggie Wayne, IND- His is one guy that prays daily that Peyton Manning never gets hurt. The last thing he wants is 'QB' [using that phrase losely] Curtis Painter thorwing him the ball! But, for now Reggie Wanye remians a staple top pick in the first round. Yes, Pierre Garcon came into the lime light last year BUT that just means the D will have to distribute the coverage between the two wideouts AND annual Pro-Bowl TE Dallas Clark. Which in short means look for Wayne to have another 1,100yd plus season and be Manning's [the good one] main target. ROUND: Mid to late 1st
3. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI- Kurt Warner maybe on the links while Fitzgerald is on the gridiron but that doesn't mean that he won't still be a great #1 receiver! There is one thing that can be counted on by Fitz and that is his health; in the last three seasons Larry has only missed one game. So, unless the injury bug plagues the Cards this year look for Fitzergald to be a good FF point producer every week. Plus, the backfield made up of Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower gives ability to go play-action-pass in every Ken Whisenhut offesnive game plan. ROUND: Mid to late 1st
4. Randy Moss, NE- At 33yrs old Moss is still one of the games elite ball-cathers. Averaging 15TD the last three seasons [avg. skewed a tad due to 23TD in 2007] and over 1,000yds there is still something to be desired in Moss. The only problem with him is the he goes feast or famine pending on the week. Out of 16 games last year he went 7 without catching a TD from Tom Brady. Also, if Wes Welker isn't back in time for the regular season can second-year Kent State QB Julian Edelman take some of the pressure off of Moss? ROUND: Late 1st to early 2nd
5. Calvin Johnson, DET- The Lions are starting to look like a NFL franchise agian. They have their poster boy in Matthew Stafford and have the building blocks to build a 'ok' defense. Also, the Lions drafted CAL RB Jahvid Best to aid a lack-luster running game that could maybe open up Johnson down the field or across the middle. His production did slip in 2009 after missing two games with a knee injury and had Stafford only playing in 10 total games all season... with the off-season to recover from injuries the Stafford-to-Johnson hook up should be a pretty constant thing in Detriot... maybe... ROUND: Early to mid 2nd
SLEEPER: Mike Sims-Walker, JAX- I pulled this guy out of the FA pool last year and never looked back! Now, as the established go-to receiver in Jacksonville it's only up for Sims-Walker. This is a guy that could be taken early in a league from people that know their stuff, so keep him on your watch list when drafting. Added to his 'sleeper-ness' is the fact that Luke McCown is battling against David Garrard for the starting QB, if McCown does get the go-head to start look for Sims-Walker's numbers to improve greatly.
BUST: Steve Smith, CAR- Jake Delhomme is gone. The Panthers have arguably the best running back one-two punch in the league. AND the fact that Smith is coming off yet another break in his left arm... all signs point to the end of a era. The only thing Smith has going for him is the fact that the talent at the WR position in Carolina is SO bad that he won't have to worry about anyone taking his #1 spot. AVOID Smith early and often! Oh, and did I forget to mention that there four QBs on the roster with a combinded 8 NFL starts [all from Matt Moore.]
