Top 5 Fantasy TE [Sleeper/Bust]
When drafting a Fantasy Football team it's always important to know what players can get the the most points constantly. Of course every year there are the 'sexy' RB or WR picks that go early and are on the cover of all the FF magazines and ESPN; but, who really is your best bet? Now we take a look at those big guys in the trenches, that actually have hands AND can make or break your fantasy team every season!
The Godfather's Top 5 Fantasy TE
1. Dallas Clark, IND- Still the number one FF TE year after year. He the two-time-MVP's go to guy on any given play and always looked at as the best check down option. AND Clark's catches are increasing from 58rec in 2007, 77rec in 2009 and 100rec last season! I have no reason to believe that his numbers shouldn't mirror the last couple of seasons. Perhaps with the emergence of Pierre Garcon, Clark's receptions may drop a tad but he will still be the guy Manning looks at deep in the red zone. ROUND: Ealy to mid 3rd
2. Jermichael Finley, GB- Only in the league two years and he already established himself as a GREAT pass catching TE. Finley blew up in 2009 with 55rec for 676yds and 5TD. That may not seem like a lot but in the prior season he had 6 grabs for 74yds and 1TD... quite jump! Donald Driver is getting a little older and Finley at 23yrs old is starting to like more and more like a prime time target for my #1 fantasy QB Aaron Rogers. Only draw back is that Finley missed three games last year due to a knee injury SO keep that in the back of your mind BUT don't that that hinder your pick. ROUND: Mid to late 3rd
3. Antonio Gates, SD- Last year Gates pulled in 79rec, the 3rd most in his seven year NFL career. Why mention this? Because that number will go up by AT LEAST 10-to12 grabs with WR Vincent Jackson having contract trouble and will miss the first three games of the season due to suspension. So now Chargers QB Philip Rivers will have to took back to Gates as his primary receiver... lets get real Malcom Flyod is okay, not by any means Vincent Jackson and the Chargers didn't exactly light the draft on fire in picking a TE/WR. Major upside is that he only missed TWO games in the past SIX seasons! ROUND: Late 3rd to early 4th
4. Vernon Davis, SF- WHOA! In 2009 we saw a very different Vernon Davis! 13TD in 2009 compared to 9TD from 2006-2008 seasons, career high yards [965yds], career high receptions [55rec]... you get the point. Now with Michael Crabtree pulling the safeties deep due to his vertical threat, Frank Gore doing damage on the ground opening they play action pass AND Alex Smith playing at his draft level [1st overall] his combo should equal a great pro-bowl year for Davis. And his is working for a new contact! I am tempted to maybe move Davis up the board come draft day. ROUND: Late 3rd to early 4th
5. Brent Celek, PHI- It's hard to put him up here after I previously trash talked his QB as this years bust BUT I have to give credit where credit is due... Celek is a great TE. Another guy that had all career highs in 09' 76rec for 971yds and 8TD it's easy to see why he is top in his position class. Plus he as the luxury of TWO vertical threats in DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin to draw coverage off of him. Like I already stated I am not sold on the man throwing him the ball, Kevin Kolb, but even in bad QB situations good TEs always come out on top. ROUND: Early to mid 4th
SLEEPER: Dustin Keller, NYJ- Look for a lot of improvement in year three for Keller... He has finally gained Mark Sanchez's trust and has improved his blocking will will keep him on the field more. And once newly acquired Santonio Holmes comes off his four-game suspension there will be a lot of talent that opposing secondaries will have to cover. You can get Keller as a steal in later rounds when people starting worrying about the PK.
BUST: Tony Gonzalez, ATL- Can you beleive that in the world of FF Gonzalez has fallen off the face of the earth? Starting Falcons' QB Matt Ryan went down causing his numbers to suffer. But, I think the time as come for the ol'TE to hang up his spikes and join the ranks of Antonio Pierce and Tedy Bruschi on ESPN. This isn't KC where Gonzalez was on your tickets and plastered all over the stadium, this is Michael Turner's and Roddy White's offense with Matt Ryan leading the way. Sorry Tony.
